Final

In the beginning of the semester, I was a bit nervous about this class. I knew there had to be a lot of writing and I knew I wasn't at all a good writer. I was just hoping that I wouldn't get a professor who was tough and always had that serious expression all the time. Writing wasn’t in my category at all, If it wasn’t in my major I probably wouldn’t be here. My writing was bogus before I took this class and reading books, I had no experience whatsoever in writing. I would write but it was to whatever came to mind  and have just jotted it down, 5- 6 paragraphs, no proofreading done, I would hand it in and they’d give it an good, well that was when I was in high school.
After being in this class, especially with Professor Smith, my writing somewhat did a 360 degree, I didn’t become a professional, but did I learned many new things about being a writer. The Professor had everything settled on what we had to get done by the end of the semester. He taught me to be more open to things especially when writing an essay. I’ve learned to always have enough details to support your main ideas, which I have never done before. Also having a thesis in your essay makes the reader have more interest to what you are writing and explaining. Even though I still get in the habit of not having a thesis, this class was  just the start of learning  to understand how a good writer is, which has me a more confident when I write things, especially when we had to write blogs in this class. It was actually a great writing exercise for me, learning and going back to the mistakes I’ve made and completely understanding what needs to get fix.
Our theme that we were reading about through the semester was about Fast Food Nation. Reading this book made me change my eating habits especially with fast food chains. I learned many things about the Fast Food world. Things I couldn’t believe and process through my head on how things got done with junk foods like McDonald, it may taste good but ever since I started reading the book, I haven’t had fast food products ever since. However, I am so glad I read this book; it taught me to eat in a healthier way and to see that the fast food society is just garbage.

I still have a lot to learn about writing, there was this saying my friend told me “You would always start from the bottom to get to the top” and writing is what is for me. Being in this class has shown my weakness, which was writing, and my strength was to never give up and to always look back at what I’ve done throughout the writings I have done in this class. I can’t express how much confidence I got during this class, it made it easier for me to writer more in my life. All I can say is, I had the great English professor.

People buy more organic foods than conventional food, because it is healthier and safer. One of many reasons why it's better is, cannibalism, it is unacceptable in organic morals, which correlates with a disorder of "Mad Cow Disease".  We should switch our eating habits to healthy, yet organic foods instead of processed items such as fast food markets. Based on a article, in 2011 about 78% of people invested their money to buying organic foods. Organic products are harmless, because of the way it is processed in farming growth.
Organic and natural may seem similar, but they are very much different. The word "organic" specifies the style of how the farmers grow and process the products, for example fruits, dairies, meats and vegetables. There is a certain type of way to growing the plants, seeds they use are free of (GMO) genetically modified organism.  According to an article, organic does a lot of composting or uses manure as a natural fertilizer to feed the plants and soil. When it comes to our dairy and meats, organic growing doesn't  have factories nor chemicals, where they make the animals grow faster or suffocate them into one small facility, which I read and watch in the meatrix. Organic growth in meat, has the animals free of open space and has them grow naturally on their own. The animals are in a non-toxic environment , which helps downsize diseases and are on a stabilized diet.
Organics may be healthier, but the pricing of their products are higher than conventional foods.  Their items are expensive because more labor is being put in compared to conventional , since there are no chemicals or antibiotics added to the product, farmers have hands-on working, for instants, cleaning up polluted water, or hand weeding the plants. Another reason why it's expensive is, demand over supply. According to the USDA, sales in organic food increased from $3.6 billion in 1997 to $21.1 billion because people refer to eating organic instead of conventional food. Organic farms harvest less than conventional products, and since organic crops are held and shipped in smaller portions, this causes higher shipping cost since most farms are far from major cities.
Not only organic foods are a good and healthy, but they can actually  save the world. Organic foods would have been the same price as conventional food if the U.S. and other places would sponsor to them , there is no support whatsoever for organic farming. The benefit of this if the U.S was to support, Americans have the option to choose cleaner foods than the other. Saving the world with organic products means, the used of  less water to growing their plants because no such chemical are added to the farming. Organic farming has less pollution, it has no petroleum-derived fertilizers, which that can cause a climate change to the environment.
We must be wise when choosing our foods.  Always select your items from different sources, to get better nutrients in the body . Eating and choosing organic food should be the best option for people. Conventional food pricing is less than organic even though it doesn't have snacks or some foods that you're used to in regular supermarkets, but the point is to eating healthier and knowing that it's safe to eat, so it is a bang for your buck.

I forgot it has to be 2000 words. Will write more.

It’s all about Fast Food, everywhere you go there is one on every corner you see. When you think of fast food such as McDonalds, you think of kids. McDonalds has a playhouse, happy meal, and toys. Parents bring them because of the fun they can do at McDonalds, eat and play, every kid’s dream. To all the madness of the kids always wanting to be at McDonalds was told by Schlosser, from the book “Fast Food Nation” was advertising.
Advertising had a major role to getting children’s attention. Kids are always spending their time watching television. As I wrote in blog five, starting at the age of two months was when they started attracting children when they watch TV. Playland is what they call their jungle gym at McDonalds. Kids would want their parents to bring them there, of course to play, another step to attracting them to go to McDonald. Parents usually surrender when their children annoy them to bring them to a place such as McDonald. Every Business has a market and apparently that’s where McDonald has put their money on, which are kids. Ray Kroc was very clever in doing that. But knowing that its literally fast food, doesn’t make the food healthy at all. Everything that’s there basically has a lot of preservatives and other chemicals, which can possibly lead to obesity.
Getting their children’s attention is them buying the McDonald food itself. It’s either the parents working and doesn’t really spend time with their kids, so they buy fast food to make them happy, or they give what their child wants in any kind of way, beg or not. But are the parents doing right thing by giving their child unhealthy food? For me, that’s a no, which is the parent’s responsibility in taking care of their son(s)/ daughter(s) and keeping them in good health. I would say once in a blue treat them to McDonalds, but not every day, or buying them because of guilty feelings. Advertising to kids can be great, but not to a point where they are sending the wrong message, because of a business matter. Even though Advertising seems to be like that, I guess that’s just how the marketing and business works. It’s neither the government nor the fast food industries fault, it’s just their way to having food on the go, when you’re in rush, for example New Yorkers are always on the run. But the issue is, it’s the parents’ choice to what they want to give their kids. Parents should feed their kids healthy foods, if not, tis leading to obesity at a young age, I know someone who feeds her child whatever she wants, and is not over weight at a young age of 11 years old. What I said it’s the parent’s responsibility, it would later on lead to health problems as they get older.
Obesity is the major issue; I read on cdv.gov that the children at the age of 6-11 who are obese made an increase from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. That’s because of the parents giving in on their children with foods that are faster to give, faster to eat and easy to enjoy, also not caring what kind of chemicals and preservatives are inside. I honestly don’t take any blame for the fast food industry and government. It’s all about marketing and advertisement for them, but the purpose is for the parental to take control, with feeding their kids healthier foods even though they tend to feel guilty, just what Schlosser said. I would say it’s better to feel guilty than to feed my kids something bad, and try to spend better time with them

We should have more organic factories in the United States. Organic items has a different way of processes their food. One major, yet very good thing about organic food is, any type of hormone is not added to the product, meaning they let the animals grow naturally, also antibiotics aren't added to the animals. Regular farming usually have all the animal clamped together, where they have no space to walk or anything, but with organic processing, they must have all the animal with open space and have their freedom to behave easily. United States may have a few of organic stores such as, trader joes, whole foods and etc, yet it may be expensive than other groceries, but you know that your food is all natural without any preservatives in the making and is healthier. We should have more or make all the store organic in order for us to our body healthy.

Shopping is what I do best! What kind of girl doesn't? Looking through my closet, I seem to buy the same brands over and over again. I mostly have Uniqlo, banana republic, Mango and Dooney and Bourke. I apparently I have too much clothes and bags, but you can never have too much, right?
I wasn't expecting to have so much Uniqlo clothes, leggings, pants, jeans, shirts, blouse, pajamas, and dresses! Their clothes are different compared to Forever21 and H&M; however I buy items at those stores too. Uniqlo brand is very unique and simple which I like. They have this certain kind of items that are called heattech and airism. Heattech is made by a hygienic material that reserves heat it absorbs, great used for the winter especially in New York. Airism on the other hand is a ultra-fine fabric which takes in moisture instantly, so you will be feeling refreshed, which is perfect to wear during the hot summers. Uniqlo was originated from Japan, now there are so many franchises in the U.S. especially on the east side. I remember buying my first Uniqlo item, which were a pair of jegging, looks and feels like jean but wears like legging, very useful when since I don’t like using the jeans with the buttons on them. Those pair of jeans lasted 2 years, ever since that I just kept buying more and more of it and other items.
Dooney and Bourke is another brand I seem to have a lot in my closet. Usually girls buy bags and then use it a few times and never use it again. I, especially use all the bags I have. I like this brand because it’s a simple bag and is easy to match with your outfit. Plus, it’s not expensive compared to Chanel, Hermes, Gucci and etc. Dooney has nice items and is my kind of style. I try not to buy so much bag or clothes, but I can’t help knowing if I like something I’ll always find my way in getting it, but if it doesn’t it wasn’t meant to be and other items will come along. I never seem to feel guilty when I buy some things, it’s because I know that I will use all of it.

The fast food industry, a book known as the "Fast Food Nation" was written by Eric Schlosser. Everything in this book tells us how it started and what was behind it. Advertising to kids and having teens to work was a major blowout in the fast food companies. A lot of time and hard work was spent in putting the company out there.
Kids advertising was the target in American companies, putting their markets on them, McDonald and Disney would be the one.(p.42) Every advertising there is, it's based on the children. In 1980s knowing that the kids will see it and nag their parents to either giving or bringing them what they want. I used to do that all the time as a child, whenever there's a new plush toy in McDonalds I was so annoying to my parents when I would beg or plead to get me the happy meal. That year experts in the marketing business called it " the decade of the child consumer". (p.43) Parents tend to feel guilty not having enough time spent with their kids, so buying them something was the only option they had in mind. Schlosser mastered presenting ways in advertising, mostly all children spend their time watching T.V. especially at the starting age of two months. Which persuades the children to tell their parents because of the "Playland" in McDonalds. (p.47)
Fast food companies usually have teens working, about 30% are at the age of 16-19. Schlosser explained how teens back then especially girls would work to attract guys. Teens workers were have no kind of skill including operating the equipment that were used, they had no training necessary and basically had teens working minimum wage and no benefits. I used to work in a fast food industry called Johnny Rockets, one week of working I already quit, and that week was just training. Luckily for those back then didn't need training to get a job.
Another good advertisement to kids was Disney. Since McDonalds was already in its high standard with franchising, Ray Kroc made an inquiry to Disney in having his restaurant in the new park. Both Kroc and Disney were born in Illinois, a year apart from each other. They both dropped out of high school, also was serving together in World War I and later on they became known experts in marketing their products to children. Disney had developed marketing strategies such as sponsoring and making the atmosphere for visitors to feel free from the outside world and coining the "synergy" strategy. (p40)
So the fast food industry had sets of ways in publishing their company and was worth it and their plans had worked. Schlosser is smart in finding the secrets to advertising. Now McDonald has a high percentage and is a big franchising company today and all over the world. Big props to Mcdonalds.

McDonald was a fast food known to many people and loved it especially kids. McDonald's philosophy was quality, service, cleanliness and value which was guided by Ray Kroc founder of McDonald Corporation, which had many things to offers such as the McStore. Since McDonald was hit in the Fast Food Industry, there was another hit too, which was called the Walt Disney Company. They knew that these two source would attract kids and nag their parents to take them. Walt Disney was one of the most entertaining place for children to love. Many parents would feel guilty about spending less time with their kids, mostly spending money on them since Disneyland was expensive to other people who couldn't afford it.

The harder you work the luckier you become was told by Carl Karcher's father. Carl was known for a fast food pioneer, growing up in Ohio. He moved to Anaheim California where his uncle Ben Karcher offered him a job. Anaheim was a place that had 70,000 acres of oranges, also lemon and walnut groves. Carl's uncle owned Karchers feed and seed store, since Carl went to work with his uncle he did 76 hours a week of work, selling all types of farmer goods.Margaret came to the picture where Carl had met and seen her new the St Boniface Catholic Church, which later on got married in 1939 and started and family. Armstrong bakery was where Carl started to work because of a $6 higher pay than when he was working with his uncle. Back then having your own business was a working progress. People tend to change their working satisfaction. In "The Founding Fathers Drive-ins became a hit especially having teens to work to guys get attracted to the girls working, plus the pay for them wasn't high too.

Food is must a throughout my day. I can't go a without food, if I miss a meal its fine, but if I go day without food I'll either be cranky like a child or faint and this has happened to me before. As a Filipino where my parents came from the Philippines they love to eat rice with their meal depending on what kind of food it is.I eat brown rice instead white rice because brown rice is healthier compared to white rice and brown rice makes you full faster. Breakfast is the meal you should never missed but I always do and have brunch instead. I sometimes miss dinner too if i had a big and long meal for lunch, so all i would do is eat a snack for dinner. On the weekends I mostly eat out because I am always hanging or  going out just because I don't want to stay at home. I would always be out with my boyfriend and our friend when we go out and eat or its just me and my boyfriend. I not a huge fan in cooking, when I do cook its just the easy things like boiling pasta and getting preggo sauce and YAY food! My parents are usually the one buying the food for the house, at times I tag along and get snacks for me to eat especially when I eat alone at school when I have  long lunch break. Working in a fast food industry was and is something I will never do again. I used to work at Johnny Rockets for two weeks, mind you that was just those were training weeks. I didn't like it do me always getting nervous around people or shy and might end up spilling something on me. Food is something I love and would never go without it.

Food is our number one priority in America, knowing where our food comes from should be in Americas mind for their safety. F.D.A also known for the Food Drug Administration is a corporate who works with federals, states and local agencies to protect and make food safer. What has caught my attention was how many investigators take their time in working and making sure processed or exported foods are safe. Also the fact with any problems they approach it right away and fix the issue.if we didn't have F.D.A American people would always get sick so having them is a great administration for us to trust and to know what our supply  of food can be forever safe. Some countries don't have F.D.A to protect their food especially poor people such as in the Philippines have to find food some other way where it hasn't been processed by investigators. So I as an American is not worried of my supplies for food and I know there are people who care enough to protect our health known as the F.D.A especially when it comes to cooking food with meat and seafood.
